Dear WHS Parents,

During the 2017-18 school year, Weed High School will be conducting an Accreditation Self Study and visitation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). During the 2012-13 WASC review, Weed High School received a six year accreditation. Since then, we have been working to implement our action plan and look to receive another six year accreditation.

We are currently looking for parents to be part of our self-study and visit process. As a parent member of our WASC team, you will have the opportunity to provide direct input into your son’s or daughter’s current and future college and career preparation process.

Parents will need to be available to meet with WHS staff and students on the following dates:

(We can provide alternative forms of input via online documents if you cannot make one of the meeting dates.)

Thursday, November 2 - 5:30 to 7:00

Tuesday, November 14 - 5:30 to 7:00

Wednesday, November 29, 5:30 to 7:00

Week of December 18 - TBA for one meeting

Week of April 23, 2018 - TBA for the actual visit -one meeting with the visiting committee

Please indicate that you are interested and willing to be part of this important process by completing this attached form: WASC Parent Participant Form

ALICE training
Weed High School, along with Weed Elementary School, is partnering with Weed Police Department to use the ALICE Training Institute to prepare our students, staff, and community for responding to a violent critical incident on campus.  We will have a joint informational meeting to share our safety plan and the ALICE program on Tuesday, October 17th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Weed Elementary School gymnasium.  This meeting is for parents only.  Please do not bring your student.  We are working with our staffs on a strategic plan for introducing ALICE to all those involved.  We hope to see you there! You can learn more about the ALICE program by visiting https://www.alicetraining.com/our-program/alice-training/k12-education.

Dear Parents and Students,

Weed High School staff and coaches are working to improve our students’ academic achievement, behavior, and attitude. Our classrooms, courts, and fields need to be focused and productive places for all students to learn and achieve at high levels. The world requires our students to have quality academic, technical, and interpersonal skills. When they leave WHS, they will need these skills to compete for scholarships and college acceptance. They will need these skills to compete for quality careers. They will need these skills to score at high levels on college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT.

To prepare our students to be highly skilled for this competitive world, we must set high expectations both in and out of the classrooms. Too many students are late to class, distracted by their phones, not using class time to get work done, disrupting the learning of others, and disrespecting the staff when they are given reminders to get on task and do the right thing.  At this time we believe we need swift, clear, and consistent consequences for students who need more than a reminder to be punctual, productive, and positive in our classrooms. Please see the attached document for the complete policy.

Weed High School is happy to announce our new after school tutoring program. The program will be known as the Academic Success Center, just like at COS. The center will offer free peer tutoring for all students. The main focus areas will be Math, English, and Science. Our peer/adult tutors will reinforce successful study habits, help students understand difficult aspects of their coursework, and encourage them to learn on their own so they can reach their own educational goals. Statistics show that students who meet twice a week with a tutor consistently throughout the semester improve their grades, so get started early! .
